About Us

Rocky Mountain Alley Cat Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 1991 to provide non-lethal population control for feral cats in the metro Denver area. We employ a method known as "TNR" (Trap, Neuter, Return) and are the only local agency specializing in feral cat management.

Each year RMACA, in collaboration with Divine Feline, spays and neuters over 2,000 feral cats, preventing over 50,000 homeless kittens from being born. We treat countless injuries and illnesses and whenever possible, find homes for abandoned tame cats and kittens who can be socialized. Most of all, we help individuals who care about animals to humanely control a problem they didn't ask for. We strive to create a community that values animals - all animals.

RMACA has approximately 50 volunteers working for ferals in every aspect including TNR, foster care, adoptions, fund-raising, rescue, and administration. We have one employee who takes calls for help, traps with Divine Feline, responds to emergencies when possible, and provides citizens with guidance and vouchers to neuter and manage feral colonies in their neighborhoods. Approximately 14 veterinarians provide spay/neuter and medical care for RMACA at reduced cost.

We do not currently have a facility. Rescued tame strays and kittens young enough to be socialized are cared for in foster homes and placed through our adoption program. We collect and deliver over 2,000 pounds of cat food each month to colony caretakers living on limited incomes.

RMACA recognizes that helping cats in the long run requires taking the long view. Ultimately, we strive to facilitate spay/neuter of owned pets and discourage abandonment in order to prevent new feral colonies from forming. We work on a continuing basis helping local agencies to include ferals in their world-view, and from there to create a social shift in the way cats are valued. RMACA is an active participant in the Metro Denver Shelter Alliance, a welcome forum among diverse organizations ranging from the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association to local Animal Control departments. We know that there is no one solution to end animal suffering, and every effort matters. Working in collaboration with others grows and magnifies those efforts. (Please read more about Divine Feline to see what two organizations working together can accomplish!)

We rely on the generosity of donors and volunteers to accomplish our mission. Although feral cats may exceed the total number of felines entering shelters in the metro area by 5 to 1, most exist in low-income areas - out of sight and mind for traditional animal welfare donors. While providing shelter for homeless animals is one important component of a healthy society, providing care for those who never make it to a shelter is equally essential. Please visit "Ways to Contribute" to see how many ways you can make a difference in your community.
